How do I enable 5.1 surround sound through my headphones?
ByI recently bought the Triton AX720 headphones from BestBuy and have it completely set up and everything.. I’ve supposedly been playing my games with them in 5.1, although something sounds a little off.. I had someone tell me to try and change my sound settings to enable 5.1 surround sound, but I don’t know how.. help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
P.S. Before you ask, yeah I have the right sound options set up as well on the amp. I just want to know how to change my sound settings to 5.1 on my computer.
You CAN have 5.1 surround with headphones.. no idea what you’re smoking. However, the Triton AX720 use a very closely "simulated" 5.1 surround sound..

For all you negative nancy’s telling me you can’t have 5.1 surround sound with headphones. READ.
Anyway I found out how to enable it, and am now enjoying Modern Warfare 2 with full on 5.1 Surround Sound on my HEADPHONES
As the other answer says, you can’t get 5.1 sound from headphones. You also need a sound card capable of 5.1 sound before you can enable it on your computer. Do you have such a card? If so, there should have been drivers for it and software to enable selecting 5.1.

5.1…
Left, Center, Right, right Rear, left Rear… that’s 5
and the .1 is the sub.
Your headphones only consist of left and right.
I mean, it’s true that Lear jets and Honda Civics both use gasoline engines, but the only way to fly your Honda is to launch it off a cliff. Not a satisfying experience.

Does your computer have an optical audio output? If not, then your computer’s sound card will not work with your headphones to give you 5.1 surround.
Otherwise, go into the computer’s control panel, and look at the sound card settings. Some sound cards also come with a separate management program, like Creative Labs’ Sound Center, which also has settings for configuring the card’s output and things like that.
