i want wireless sound to my existing headphones. Like a FM transmitter.

You could do it exactly the way you suggest. Use an FM transmitter (like one for an MP3 player) and a small battery powered FM radio with a headphone jack.

If you don’t like that idea, you could go bluetooth. There are several bluetooth audio receivers that will work with any headphones and several bluetooth audio transmitters that will plug into anything with a headphone jack.
