40mm is the size of the small speakers inside the headphone. Yes they will fit your 3.5mm headphone jack.

if i want to buy a pair of headphones, which brand is better: sony or panasonic or some other brand? if you could list the best brands that would be great.
none of those listed are really good. especially not bose or skullcandy. Those two are fantastically overpriced.
